There’s nothing better than sitting round a campfire on a crisp autumn evening, a proper treat when it comes around. At our adventure camps, campfire cooking is something we do from time to time, and it’s always a bit special. Whether you’ve joined us before or you’re just after some ideas to keep the kids busy this half term, here are five easy campfire recipes to try at home, in the garden, or on your next family adventure.
Foil-Packet Veggie Feast
Pop chopped veg on foil, season, drizzle with oil, wrap tightly, and cook in the embers for 15–20 minutes.
Camp tip: Let the kids build their own packs – they’ll love choosing what goes in.
Campfire Pizza Wraps
Spread sauce and cheese on a wrap, add toppings, fold in half, and toast over the fire till crisp.
Camp tip: Wrap in foil if you don’t have a grill.
Campfire Jacket Potatoes
Rub potatoes with oil and salt, wrap in foil, and cook in the embers for 30–40 minutes, turning occasionally.
Camp tip: Mix beans and cheese straight into the foil for the full campfire experience.
And for dessert…
Classic S’mores
Toast a marshmallow till it’s golden and gooey, then squash it between two biscuits with a bit of chocolate. Give it a minute to melt and enjoy. Sticky fingers and messy faces guaranteed!
Banana Boats
Slice a banana (skin on), stuff with chocolate chips and marshmallows, wrap in foil, and bake in the embers for 5–10 minutes.
Safety First:
Always light fires safely and only in approved areas like fire pits or barbecues. Keep water or sand nearby, and never leave a fire unattended. Children must always be supervised by an adult around open flames and hot equipment.
