Adventure Camps recognises that mobile technology forms part of the ever-changing digital environment in which we live and work. We are committed to maintaining a culture of safety in which children and staff are protected from harm, abuse and distress.
This policy sets out the acceptable use of mobile phones, tablet computers and wearable technology with imaging or sharing capabilities. The policy applies to staff, children, parents and visitors.
By adhering to this policy, we:
- Protect children from harm and abuse.
- Ensure privacy is respected and online safety is maintained.
- Prevent staff from being subject to false allegations.
- Help staff remain focused on the care and supervision of children.
- Promote an open and transparent safeguarding culture.
Staff use of mobile phones #
Personal mobile phones belonging to members of staff are kept in the designated staff area during working hours.
If a member of staff needs to make an urgent personal call they can use the Camp phone or make a personal call from their mobile in the designated staff area.
If a member of staff has a family emergency or similar and needs to keep their mobile phone to hand, prior permission must be sought from the Manager or Deputy.
Under no circumstances may staff use their personal mobile phones to take photographs at the Camp during working hours.
Mobile Phones Off Site #
Personal mobile phones must be switched off and stored in a designated secure location during working hours.
Only devices owned and maintained by Adventure Camps may be used for Camp purposes.
All Camp-owned devices will have appropriate filtering, safeguarding and image management controls in place.
Wearable technology (e.g., smartwatches) may only be worn if imaging and sharing functions are disabled.
Personal devices must never be used to take photographs or videos while on duty.
Urgent personal calls must be made using the Camp phone or in a designated staff-only area with prior permission.
If a staff member needs to keep their phone accessible due to a family emergency, prior permission must be obtained from the Manager or Deputy.
Children’s Use of Mobile Phones and Technology #
Adventure Camps recognises that some children may own mobile phones or wearable technology. The following boundaries apply:
- Children are discouraged from using mobile phones during Camp sessions.
- If children bring devices, they must not be used to take photographs or record images.
- Children must not share images or data whilst at Camp.
- The Camp accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal devices brought on site.
- If a child would like a photograph of an activity, they must ask a member of staff to take one using a Camp-owned device.
Social media #
Under no circumstances should there be any contact between staff and students over social media. Any attempt by a child to link up with/connect with a staff member over social media, including private messaging, should be rejected, and the reasons why explained to the child.
Staff should not show students their personal social media profile pages, nor allow any student to use their personal computers or show them any materials, including photos and videos that are stored on their personal computers.
Visitors’ and Parents use of mobile phones #
If a parent would like a photograph of their child participating in an activity, a staff member may take one using a Camp device.
Parents and visitors are asked not to use mobile phones or recording devices on Camp premises.
Taking photographs or videos by parents or visitors is strictly prohibited.
